- Intrinsic to the New Victory mission is that its performance season and education programs combine to create a unique artistic and learning experience that complements student development by utilizing the performing arts as an educational resource. The multidisciplinary productions that come from the United States and abroad inspire students of all ages to explore their imaginations and the world around them, and many of these students experience their first ever, live performance in our theater.
As New York City's first and only full-time theater dedicated to young people, The New Victory is committed to creating ever-widening avenues of opportunity for young people, their families and teachers to grow professionally and personally through the arts. This commitment is made manifest in the four core elements of our Education Program:
New Vic Education Partnership Program
New Vic in the Classroom
New Vic / New 42 Youth Corps
New Vic Studio
New Vic Teaching Artists
The New Victory Education Department works in collaboration with a team of professional, highly skilled and creative Teaching Artists who facilitate many components of the New Vic Education Program. These dedicated New York-based artists possess a richly diverse range of skills, including acting, playwriting, music, puppetry, hip-hop, experimental theater, circus arts and contemporary dance. They bring their artistry and extensive education experience into classrooms throughout the New York area to lead pre- and post-performance workshops through the New Vic in the Classroom program.
New Vic SCHOOL TOOL Resource Guides
Available to Education Partners for every show in our season, these resource guides provide educators with comprehensive materials that explore the artistry and themes for each production. Filled with practical, ready-to-implement activities that allow any teacher to incorporate The New Victory into the classroom, they are designed to increase literacy in the Performing Arts; to develop arts-based curriculum units, to connect to the NYCDOE’s Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts and the NYS Learning Standards to support arts integration.
New York City Department of Education
The New Victory is proud to support the City's Blueprint for Teaching and Learning in the Arts. Attending live performances in theater, music and dance is an integral component of fulfilling the aims of the Blueprint. Look for the Blueprint Focus on each show description. In addition, curriculum connections to the New York State Learning Standards are identified for every production._____________________________________________________________________________________
