Description
The New Shanghai Circus Shanghai, China
The New Shanghai Circus, an innovative and internationally renowned troupe of Chinese acrobats, aerialists and athletes, will replace the previously scheduled Golden Dragon Acrobats from November 30, 2007 through January 6, 2008.
The New Shanghai Circus previously appeared at the New Vic in 1999 and 2002 and is a beautifully orchestrated presentation of Chinese circus arts. These astounding acts, dating back to the harvest festivals of 2,000 years ago, combine with show-stopping choreography, dazzling lighting, enchanting scenery and powerful music to create a dynamic and fantastic performance, sure to amaze.
The New Shanghai Circus is one of the world's leading purveyors of China's prestigious, 2,500 year-old art form. Many of the performers started training in Hai at the age of nine, learning skills developed originally in village festivals. The performers learn overall acrobatics but specialize in one particular skill. Together they are some of the best acrobats, contortionists, bicyclists, and jugglers in the world. The New Shanghai Circus has been touring the world since 1991 and has received special mention in the Guinness Book of World Records for winning more national Gold, Silver and Bronze medals than any other acrobatic troupe. For the past decade, the company has toured overseas more than 30 times, to countries including the United States, Japan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Singapore, New Zealand, Turkey and Indonesia.
