- The New Victory Theater is New York City's first and only professional theater dedicated to young people and families, and in just one decade, The New Vic has introduced over one million kids and adults, including 225,000 students and teachers, to an eclectic blend of performing arts disciplines and world cultures. From theater and dance to puppetry and circus, 125,000 theatergoers of all ages annually attend performances at the elegantly restored New Vic, while 28,000 pre-K-12 students and teachers experience the inherent value of the Theater's presentations as a cultural, curricular and career resource though their participation in the New Victory Theater Education Program. This commitment to youth extends throughout all stages of development, and as such, The New Victory also provides paid job training to over 90 high school and college-age New Vic Ushers and New 42 apprentices each season through the New Vic/New 42 Youth Corps, whereby they build the fundamental skills, confidence and experience to succeed personally and professionally beyond our Theater's nurturing environment. Although the programs are flourishing, the Theater's affordably-priced tickets, (which average $18, and include $2 student admission to School Time and After-School Performances) continue to cover less than 30% of the Theater's annual operating expenses despite encouraging near-capacity crowds to attend. Contributed income is therefore critical to the financial stability of The New Victory Theater, and will ensure many more years of family theatergoing.
