This has been quite a season for our New Victory Ushers! Back in November at the White House, First Lady Michelle Obama awarded the New Victory Usher Corps Program the 2014 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award; and this past Tuesday, March 31st, the New York City Council honored them with a City Council Proclamation. The Proclamation was presented by City Council Members Corey Johnson and Mathieu Eugene, and several Ushers, along with New 42nd Street President Cora Cahan, New Victory Youth Corps Manager Anthony Pound and Education Directors Courtney J. Boddie and Lindsey Buller Maliekel, were there at City Hall to accept it.

Prior to attending the ceremony on Tuesday, we asked our Ushers for some insight into the Usher Corps Program, and what it means to them personally and professionally. Here are the responses they shared. Reading through them, I’m sure you’ll smile as I did. And the next time you come to see a show at The New Victory, remember that the Ushers taking your tickets and helping you to your seats are a group of truly amazing young people. Congratulations, Usher Corps!

I want the New Victory Audience to know how ___________ we are.

As a New Victory Usher I have ___________.

The most amazing part of the Usher Corps Program is the ___________.

Being a part of the Usher Corps has helped me to ___________.

The Usher Corps Program deserves a City Council Proclamation because ___________.
