Kids' Lit March Madness: We Have a Winner!

For the past several weeks, the titans of tales for tots have been tangled up in a tumultuous tug-of-war, a tournament of titles, a test of timelessness. We call it Kids' Lit March Madness. Yes, it's April now, but these things take time! So, how did it all shake out?

First thing's first: we have a winner! In our championship matchup, Peter Pan flew circles around Alice, earning him the title of Kids’ Lit Champion. Congratulations, Peter! I’m sure you’ll be bragging about it all over Neverland. With the help of some tea and mushroom mini-quiches, Alice has made a full recovery and is looking forward to going home—if she can find her way.

Meanwhile, in our race for the bronze, Beauty and the Beast danced their way to a happy third-place ending, leaving the Ugly Duckling forlorn in fourth. But our feathered friend’s outlook is sunny, and his pluck is undeniable. Years from now, as a swaggering swan, he’ll recall this loss and honk!

It’s been a turbulent competition—one for the storybooks—and many a great yarn did spin out. Let's not forget, though, that all these stories hold special significance to readers the world over. Shelving them forever would be tragic! We can take a lesson from our champion, advocate for eternal youth, Peter Pan, who reminds us to never forget the wonder of our childhoods. We must all grow up, but taking the levity and lessons of these stories with us can only make us better.

So the next time you pack a book for your picnic in the park or day down-the-shore, consider an old favorite from your younger days. Its relevance might surprise you, its recollection will delight you, and it might just strike a resonant chord from days forgotten, once upon a time and long ago.
