The mission of The New 42nd Street—the parent organization of The New Victory Theater—is to make performing arts and cultural engagement part of everyone's life. "Everyone," in this case, are New Victory audiences, all of whom have the opportunity to participate in activities before and after the show, providing even more reasons to come early to the theater and stay and hang out afterwards.
EXPLORE, EXPERIMENT AND ENGAGE
in THE JACK AND LEW RUDIN LOBBY
Thoughtfully designed by the New Victory Public Engagement Department, arts-based activities will change with every show, offering families a hands-on opportunity to learn more about the art forms on stage! Before and after every performance, New Victory Teaching Artists and Ushers will guide audience members to try a new skill, find out more about the artists or discover something new about the show—and also about your family and yourself. Interactive arts activities are also available at New Victory performances at The Duke on 42nd Street and the New 42nd Street Studios.
TXT MARKS THE SPOT
Learn more about The New Victory and the shows on our stage by playing our text-based scavenger hunts. All it takes is for your family to have a phone that sends and receives text messages and 10 minutes before or after the show. Once you log into the game, a series of text message clues will lead you to discover fun information about the theater and the show.
We encourage families to use phones in our lobbies as part of TXT Marks the Spot, and ask that the phones be turned off and powered down once the curtain lifts and the magic of the show begins.
Ask questions and get to know the performers and creative team. New Victory Teaching Artists, who have in-depth knowledge of the show and art form, lead these lively discussions.
Look for the Talk-Back icons on the calendars (there are no Talk-Backs after The Young King, Marmalade, A Sick Day for Morris McGee, Pss Pss or Panda's Home).
ONLINE FAMILY ACTIVITIES
For each production, the award-winning New Victory Education Department also prepares a free, online Family Activity to do right in your own home. Enjoy the latest one here.
READY TO ENGAGE EVEN MORE?!
Family Workshops take the onstage art forms into the Studio (the professional New 42nd Street Studios, where Broadway companies rehearse). Taught by New Victory Teaching Artists and created to engage both kids and adults, these 90-minute workshops are the perfect opportunities to deepen relationships to the arts and make memories.
Family Workshops: $12 / participant for Members; $17 / participant for Non-Members.
