Trio excerpts from Dream’d in a Dream

Dream’d in a Dream (BAM 2015 Next Wave Festival) mixes traditional and modern movement, revealing the rhythmic and melodic similarities between Irish folk music and the sounds of Ustatshakirt Plus, a Kyrgyz music ensemble the company met on travels through Central Asia.

Seán Curran Company has toured to over 100 venues around the world; for Dream’d in a Dream, the company traveled to Kyrgyz Republic as part of DanceMotion USA, the U.S. State Department’s cultural ambassadorship program.

Dream’d in a Dream (2015) was commissioned by Brooklyn Academy of Music and The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center at the University of Notre Dame.

Mozaik Dance

Excerpt from Sad Hope

The three women of Mozaik Dance use popping mixed with other street styles and contemporary influences to look inward with Sad Hope. Mapping our connection to love, anxiety and the ways we relate to one another, they ask, “How do we deal with emotion in a world that numbs our feelings?”

Mozaik Dance is the collaborative creation of dancers Sun Kim, from Korea, Manon Bal, from France, and J9, from NYC. The company has performed their mix of street styles at Jacob’s Pillow, San Francisco Hip-Hop Festival and Mark Morris Dance.

Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY

Nava Nirmana

Nirmana translates to “Creation.” In Nava Nirmana, ancient art forms from the Kandy region take center stage when intricate footwork is accompanied by live percussion to illustrate the relationship between dancer and drummer and reveal the rich, varied artistic culture of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan Dance Academy of NY is a Kandyan dance school, teaching the ancient Sri Lankan traditions from the region of Kandy to preserve the significant cultural and artistic heritage of Sri Lanka in America.

Good Island explores the limits of rambunctiousness, sensitivity and competition to examine notions of modern masculinity and gender expression.

Keerati Jinakunwiphat, originally from Chicago, IL., is a Thai American dancer and choreographer. A freelance choreographer and member of A.I.M, she was recently named a “25 to Watch” by Dance Magazine.

Full Circle Souljahs

Floetry in Motion

Floetry in Motion chronicles hip-hop dance from past to present day. With rhyming poetry, beatbox and the distinct styles of four different dancers, this piece is a celebration of hip-hop through the ages.

Full Circle Souljahs is a Bronx-based hip-hop, beatboxing and street dance crew founded by Kwikstep and Rokafella with the goal to maintain hip-hop culture as a positive and relevant urban expression via dance events and performances.
