About the Workshop

What do The Three Musketeers and Romeo and Juliet have in common? They’re both considered “classics,” both are being retold from a new perspective on the New Victory stage this season and both are the inspiration behind this season’s first professional development workshop!

Shifting paradigms and changing perspectives can lead to dramatic breakthroughs (pun intended) in social and cultural change. The same is true when it comes to storytelling. Rethinking how stories are told, who is telling the story and why can shift a story’s dramatic arc, change its structure and reframe the ways in which an audience experiences the story.

This exciting workshop will explore these ideas by asking participants to examine “classic” tales, brainstorm and conceptualize retellings and reframe those stories to uncover new pathways to storytelling. It will integrate text analysis, character exploration and devised theater to give you the tools to take storytelling to a whole new level in your classroom.

Participants will be offered one complimentary ticket to see Hip Hop Cinderella at 7pm, following the workshop, at The New Victory Theater.
