It’s time to flip the script and throw out the playbook! In this devised theater workshop, you’ll discover how the most powerful stories emerge not from a single mind, but from the electric collision of imaginations working together.
With a focus on ensemble-based theater-making, and taking inspiration from New Victory’s Speak Up, Act Out program, you’ll experiment with devising techniques that weave multiple voices, perspectives and ideas into one unforgettable story that champions justice, advocacy and real-world change.
You’ll wear many hats (playwright, director, performer, creative catalyst, etc.) as you and your colleagues build something entirely new, exploring how student-created work can tackle hyperlocal issues and activate meaningful action. Bring your curiosity, creativity and willingness to play in the unknown, and discover how devised theater can become a vehicle for both artistic expression and social impact.
These professional development workshops provide a collaborative space for educators to work as artists, learn new art form techniques to bring to their students, and make connections to their classroom goals and units. Each workshop will highlight alignments to the Next Generation Learning Standards, Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, New York State Arts Standards and National Arts Standards.
All workshops take place in the lower lobby of the New Victory Theater, and eligible participants will receive up to two (2) CTLE credit hours per workshop.
