About the Program

This program has concluded for Summer 2021. Information about upcoming opportunities for schools is available on the Education Partnership page.

Bring dance into your learning space with New Victory Dance Jams!

Transform your outdoor site into a dancer’s rehearsal studio! Book a New Victory Dance Jam and a professional dancer and two New Victory Teaching Artists will travel to you and lead the group in a Covid-safe interactive creativity session. Kids will watch a live performance, react, respond and create choreography for an experience that is part performance, part workshop and full of fun!

Dance Jams are one resource within New Victory’s free Education Summer Partnership.

During a Dance Jam, students in grades K – 12 will enjoy:

  • A short performance excerpt by artists from this year’s New Victory Dance video
  • Teaching Artist-led interactive activities where your students respond to the piece, create their own movement phrases, and the dancers respond to them
  • Q&A with the artists
  • Dance party!

When

All New Victory Dance Jams are based around an 11am start time and include about 45 minutes of active student engagement.

Where

Your outdoor site! New Victory will arrive early to set up the Covid-safe open outdoor event area, performance space and audience seating.

Who

Book as few as 10 tickets and as many as 40! New Victory Dance Jams can accommodate up to 40 people from your program. Have more than 40 kids? Partners can book multiple Dance Jams throughout the summer.

Dance Jams are staffed by a professional dancer, two New Victory Teaching Artists and an Education staff tour manager.

Think you want to Jam? Here’s what you need to know:

Space, Seating, Accessibility & Accommodations

Read on to see if your space has what it takes to accommodate New Victory Dance Jams.

Space Requirements

Although the New Victory will endeavor to adapt to as many locations and individual situations as possible, your space will need to fulfill some minimum requirements:

  • Site must be located in one of the five boroughs of New York City.
  • New Victory can only work on private property that is managed by your school or camp.
  • 70 feet by 70 feet of unobstructed, flat, outdoor space. This defined space will contain the performance area, Covid-19 Safety Zone, Floor or ground seating area, and offstage technical space.
  • The performance space must not include loose sand, tree roots, rocks and other similar obstacles for everyone’s safety, especially the dancer.
  • Performance space must be made available up to 2 hours before the scheduled start time for load in/setup and one hour after the end for load out.
  • Please provide restrooms for New Victory artists and staff to use.
Seating & Accessibility

As with all New Victory programs and performances, we do our best to accommodate audiences with a diverse spectrum of needs. Please review and gather pertinent information ahead of reserving New Victory Dance Jams.

  • New Victory asks for support in maintaining social distance throughout the program for the safety of the kids, professional dancers and New Victory staff.
  • Seating should be on the ground surrounding the performance area. This will allow for the most flexibility for our Teaching Artists to engage with students while maintaining social distance among attendees.
  • New Victory will provide small soft color dots to arrange on the floor as socially distant seating areas for the kids to sit on. These dots can be taken home by the kids after the performance.
Accommodations can be made for individuals unable to sit on the floor or for accessibility purposes to ensure all can enjoy the program.
  • When requesting a Dance Jam, please indicate if your group requires ASL interpretation.
  • Additionally, our Teaching Artists are able to make accommodations within the overall agenda of the Dance Jam; please include information about students’ accommodation needs (physical, neurodiverse, sensory trigger, etc.).

Health & Safety

New Victory Education and Production have worked together to create a fun-filled, Covid-safe experience and want to ensure that everyone can enjoy New Victory Dance Jams. To ensure the health and safety of participating artists and your staff and students, please review.

Covid-19 Protocols

The New Victory is closely monitoring all CDC and New York State recommendations about Covid-safety protocols (PDF). We adhere to the following policies for our artists and staff:

  • Face Masks: All New Victory staff, performers and audience members are required to wear a face mask completely covering the nose and mouth at all times.
  • Social distancing: The stage and audience set up is designed to maintain 6 ft social distancing between the audience members to each other and the stage, as well as 6 ft distance between the performer and the New Victory Teaching Artists
  • Vaccines: All New Victory staff and performers will be vaccinated and undergo weekly Covid-19 testing and will need negative results in order to visit your site.

Each hosting organization should share its own site policies with New Victory staff so that we also meet your requirements.

Capacity, Permits & Insurance
  • Capacity: For the success of the event and in keeping with Covid-related guidelines, audience size must not exceed the capacity limit of 40 people per Dance Jam event. These events are meant for students, campers and support staff, and are not open to the public. Summer Partners will manage event access, including a method for preventing additional people from crossing the safety perimeter.
  • Permits: Every Dance Jam will include music and New Victory artists will have microphones.*

*New Victory will provide battery-powered speakers for music and sound amplification. According to NYC guidelines, an amplified audio permit via the NYPD is required. New Victory will offer instructions for the permit application process upon Dance Jam confirmation.

  • Insurance: Both parties will be required to show proof of insurance.
  • Final Agreement: In order to confirm the Dance Jam event, New Victory Education will review a final agreement with each partner.
