About the Show

In the moonlit glow of dawn, a young wanderer named Yoah descends from her aerial silks into a circle of Shinto spirits, made manifest as mysterious maestros of cirque! Hypnotic projections play in sync with the performers as they send juggling balls soaring, conjure confidence atop a tower of chairs and fling their glowing diabolos to the heavens in hopeful arcs of neon. Set to a dramatic medley of traditional Japanese drumming and thumping electronica, this wordless symphony of circus will dazzle your breath away.

Things to Know

1. While the New Victory has presented circuses from 14 countries over the last 30 years, YOAH is the first circus we’ve presented from Japan!
2. From the moon as a symbol of woeful contemplation to the four marebito-like spirits bearing gifts of circus wisdom, YOAH‘s imagery draws from the myths and traditions of Shinto, the native religion that still plays an important role in modern Japanese culture.
3. Cirquework has performed YOAH in Australia, England and Switzerland, but this will be their first time performing in the United States!

About the Artists

Established in 2021, Cirquework is a Japanese circus company founded by young circus artists active in Japan and other nations. Combining acrobatics, dance, music, lighting and visual effects, they create unique and innovative contemporary circus experiences for audiences around the world.

Based in Brisbane, Australia, Cluster Arts Global produces a wide variety of shows, including circus, dance and theater, for all ages. Championing artists and empowering communities through professional development opportunities and the power of live performance, they advocate for meaningful cultural change in the world.
