Classroom Workshop Details
All Classroom Workshops…
- Are team-taught by highly-trained and experienced New Victory Teaching Artists and are 45 – 60 minutes, based on your school's scheduling needs.
- Have a maximum limit of 35 students. Schools should not combine classes when booking workshops. Please book multiple workshops if you have more than one class participating.
- Take place at your school or site. Workshops are ideally held in a classroom, gymnasium or auditorium that will allow the students to move safely in the space and accommodate full participation.
- Require classroom teachers to be in the room when Teaching Artists are present. Teachers are highly encouraged to participate.
- Follow the guidelines set forth by the CDC and New York State regarding workplace protocols for COVID, and on-site workshops depend on guidance from NYCPS and other school districts. We ask that teachers communicate to us any COVID or other illness outbreaks in classrooms where workshops have taken place or are scheduled to take place to ensure the health and safety of our Teaching Artists.
Residencies
Looking for more? A limited number of subsidized 5-, 10- or 15-session residencies are available to schools interested in an extended workshop series.
Residencies can be designed to connect to the theater-going experience, build skills in a specific art form (such as theater, puppetry, circus, dance, music, musical theater, storytelling, documentary theater, artivism and more), or make connections to social-emotional or academic learning goals.
Speak Up, Act Out Residency:
The performing arts play a vital role in young people's lives, especially in times of great conflict and social unrest. Speak Up, Act Out centers student voice, agency, creativity and activism.
Led by a team of New Victory Teaching Artists, these residencies for middle and high school students are offered for 5, 10 or 15 sessions. They are customized for each classroom to meet every student's needs and focus on:
- Artivism and Inspiration: Students examine and define activism, artivism, justice and advocacy.
- Our Social Issue: Students come to consensus on a hyperlocal issue to focus on as a collective.
- Art form Exploration: Students discover and land on performing art form(s) that will support the advocacy messages they determine.
- Planning and Rehearsals: Students plan and organize the action(s) to advocate for change and rehearse their original works.
- Stand Up, Stand Out: Students hold a Town Hall or Happening as a culminating event, activate the action plan and reflect on the residency experience.
