Last year, we made a commitment to celebrate the holiday through New Victory Arts Break, sharing more about the event’s historical and cultural context and exploring the relationship between activism and the arts. The response from you and from the hundreds of teachers we work with was overwhelmingly positive. To help educators prepare lesson plans well in advance, New 42 recently released the New Victory School Tool “Speak Up, Act Out: Celebrating Juneteenth” so that classes can make space for this important curriculum before the school year comes to a close. As with all New Victory School Tools, this resource guide is filled with practical, engaging and ready-to-implement activities to enrich participants’ arts skills and creative expression. This particular unit is one aspect of how New 42 is taking a closer look at our performing arts curriculum and resources to better reflect the nonprofit’s collective anti-bias and anti-racism work. Furthermore, to foster more equitable learning environments when working with students, the New 42 education team and Teaching Artists are training in radical healing and trauma-informed practices, anti-racist and liberatory education practices, and strategies for students with disabilities. We uphold inclusivity at the theater, in the classroom and throughout our offices and studios, because every individual should feel safe, seen, heard and valued at New 42. All my best, Russell Granet New 42 President & CEO Recognition from WNET We are pleased to share that the WNET Group honored New 42 as an “Education Hero” at their annual gala! As New Victory Arts Break reaches 1 million views, we are delighted to celebrate our partnership with WNET to continue supporting educators, parents and students with exciting arts curriculum resources. New Board Members We recently announced the addition of Ann Unterberg, Isaac Mizrahi and Yemi Benedict-Vatel to our Board of Directors. Their interest in mentorship for young New Yorkers is in keeping with New 42’s mission to put performing arts at the forefront of conversations addressing access and equity in education and we’re thrilled they have deepened their commitment to our nonprofit. Theatrical Workforce Development Program New Victory is a proud employment partner theater of the Theatrical Workforce Development Program, a stagehand training program created by Roundabout Theatre Company and the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. Over the course of three years, participants receive mentorship from professionals in the industry as well as training in carpentry, lighting, audio and wardrobe to become entry-level technicians at working theaters like New Victory. New Victory Dance This season, five NYC dance companies will share fully staged performances, filmed at the New Victory, to offer a stronger viewing experience when this signature program returns in July. Stay tuned for exciting updates on how to participate in New Victory Dance from wherever you are this summer. CategoriesNewsTagsRussell Granet Share: Share on Facebook. Share on Twitter.
