About New Victory Dance

Swing into summer with New Victory Dance, the annual mini-festival of NYC dance curated specifically for kids! MCed by New Victory Teaching Artists, each program showcases a diverse lineup of acclaimed NYC-based dance companies—three per program, nine in total—and features a choreographer Talk-Back with a chance to dance from your seat.

Michael Mao Dance

Weaving (Excerpt)

Genre: Modern

Weaving soars with choreographer Michael Mao's childhood memories from Southeast Asia. Set to the rhythm of pounding drums, Weaving is defined by its strength and beauty.

Gibney Company

Vukani (Excerpt)

Genre: Contemporary

Xhosa for "to awaken," Vukani explores communion with elders and a search for guidance. Choreographed by Mthuthuzeli November, the piece is informed by traditional South African dance, street dance, ballet and contemporary styles.

EMERGE125

Behavioral Synchrony

Genre: Contemporary

Set to the beats of Indigenous electronic group The Halluci Nation, Behavioral Synchrony asks dancers to throw themselves—spiritually, mentally, creatively, physically—into work using percussion as a foundation.

Michael Mao Dance

Michael Mao Dance is a critically acclaimed modern dance company with an international corps of accomplished dancers. Passionate and meticulously crafted, and infused with a visceral power, Mao's dances fill the stage with compelling imagery and transfix audiences with their emotional immediacy.

Gibney Company

Founded in 1991, Gibney Company commissions and performs works by renowned and rising international choreographers who are committed to exploring connections between contemporary dance and humanistic storytelling.

EMERGE125

EMERGE125 is a Black female-led dance company that expands the reach and impact of dance through creation, performance and education. Through a body of expressive, athletic modern dance work, EMERGE125 explores social dynamics and personal identity, challenges systemic inequities, and inspires reflection and connection.

At New Victory performances, dedicated Education staff and Youth Corps Ushers welcome groups into the theater, ensuring students, chaperones and educators feel comfortable and safe.

  • Sensory Awareness Notes are available—a short guide including descriptions of the characters, story and technical elements—to help you know what to expect during the show.

  • Our quiet Cozy Zone and a live feed of the performance are available in the lower lobby at all times for those with sensory sensitivities or anyone who needs a break from the theater.
