About New Victory Dance

Swing into summer with New Victory Dance, the annual mini-festival of NYC dance curated specifically for kids! MCed by New Victory Teaching Artists, each program showcases a diverse lineup of acclaimed NYC-based dance companies—three per program, nine in total—and features a choreographer Talk-Back with a chance to dance from your seat.

The Program

Urban Bush Women

Contemplations on Legacy (Excerpt)

Genre: Contemporary

Content Considerations: Mature themes of death and legacy

Contemplations on Legacy, choreographed by longtime Urban Bush Women collaborator and choreographer Vincent E. Thomas, explores how our individual and collective legacies can light the way for future generations.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Pas de Quatre

Genre: Comedic ballet

Content Considerations: Parody of classical ballet; all-male troupe of dancers

A parody of Romantic Ballet in the 1840s, Pas de Quatre brings together four spotlight-stealing ballerinas for a fantastic, farcical and en pointe performance.

Shamel Pitts | TRIBE

BLACK HOLE – Trilogy And Triathlon (Excerpt)

Genre: Contemporary

Content Considerations: Dark stage lighting, projections, spinning lights; costumes and body paint are skin-colored, creating the illusion of nudity

BLACK HOLE – Trilogy And Triathlon is a kaleidoscopic performance art experience blending movement with light and visual art—an odyssey where three Black performers create a trinity of vigor, afrofuturism and connection.

About the Companies

Urban Bush Women

Urban Bush Women is a groundbreaking Black women-led theatrical dance company and social activism ensemble. UBW combines revolutionary performance, deep-healing community engagement and ancestral knowledge from the African diaspora into a cultural force that is urgent, forward-looking and essential.

Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo

Best known for presenting their lovingly-satirical takes on the tropes of classical ballet, this all-male dance troupe combines slapstick humor with technical chops to create performances that simultaneously celebrate, skewer and enliven familiar ballets through the universal language of laughter.

Shamel Pitts | TRIBE

TRIBE's mission is to cultivate a space of discovery and a platform for artists—most specifically artists of color—with huge inspiration from the Afrofuturism movement. Artistic director, founder and 2020 Guggenheim Fellow Shamel Pitts is a performance artist, choreographer, conceptual artist, dancer, spoken word artist and teacher.
