Getting to Know Reduced Shakespeare Company

The secret behind the Reduced Shakespeare Company's success is all in the name: they reduce (in length, not in quality!) Shakespeare's greatest works into easily understood, short comedies. However, this three-man comedy troupe doesn’t just tackle Shakespeare—they've reduced everything from Charles Dickens to sports history, and dabbled in media from theater to television to radio podcasts. Though their abridgments of history's great comedies (and tragedies) are short, their list of accolades is long. They've been nominated for awards all over the world, including the Shorty Awards in New York City, the TEDx Delft Awards in Holland and the Olivier Awards in London.

Did You Know?

  • The performers set the Guinness World Record for Highest Theatrical Performance in 2014 when they performed at 37,000 feet on an EasyJet flight from London to Verona.
  • The moniker, "The Bad Boys of Abridgement,” was given to them by their incredibly enthusiastic, international fans.
  • The Reduced Shakespeare Company has performed at The New Victory before! We welcomed The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)[revised] in 2010 and The Complete World of Sports (abridged) in 2011.
