Compagnia T.P.O. & Insite Arts from Prato, Italy and Melbourne, Australia

Embark on a magical trek across the Australian outback and discover the language, lore and music of its indigenous culture in SALTBUSH. Kids are invited to kick off their shoes and join the dancers to play on the interactive performance space. Amongst a kaleidoscope of aboriginal imagery and the sound of didgeridoos, they'll ride on the backs of sea turtles and leap among the stars. From the creators of The Butterfly Garden (New Vic 2010), SALTBUSH will have your senses soaring and your imagination running wild.

(P.S. All seats for SALTBUSH are on the New Vic stage!)

Getting to Know Compagnia T.P.O. and Insite Arts

Compagnia T.P.O., from Italy, has roots in children's theater that uses light and mechanical devices to create responsive stage spaces. With a dash of touchscreen and projection technology, the company created the "Children's Cheering Carpet," a sensory landscape that allows kids to interact with the story and performers in new and exciting ways.

Enter Insite Arts, a Melbourne-based company with a 20-year history of bridging the gap between different forms of media. The "Children's Cheering Carpet" was thought to be a perfect fit for Aboriginal artists to interpret shared art, dance and music because of its interactivity. The 'saltbush', a plant is found throughout Australia, represented a commonality among the different nations of indigenous Australians and acted as a starting point for developing mutual ideas.

So began a cross-continental collaboration; an 18-month journey between Compagnia T.P.O. and Insite Arts that resulted in an interdisciplinary exploration of the art, cultures and landscapes of Australia.

Your Trip to Our Theaters

Just steps from the Times Square-42nd Street subway stops, The New Victory is a 499-seat, historic, jewel box theater restored to its original glory. Located inside the New 42nd Street Studios building, The Duke on 42nd Street is home to New Victory programming that requires a more intimate space.

Located just down the block from The New Victory Theater, the New 42nd Street Studios host New Vic shows geared towards our youngest audience members. The space allows for a variety of seating configurations, including options for floor seating, making it easy to move around and step out of the theater area if you and yours need to do so.
