About the Workshop

In this physical theater workshop inspired by the breathtaking artistry of both STREB EXTREME ACTION and Aakash Odedra Company, explore the body as a primary instrument of storytelling and connection. Using a range of physical theater techniques, you'll explore how weight, effort, stillness and gesture can convey an entire narrative. Centering ensemble-based movement and play, discover how bodies working together in space create something no single performer can make alone.

Celebrate the rich diversity of movement that participants bring into the room, and explore how our varied lived experiences, cultural backgrounds and ways of moving are not just welcome but essential. You'll leave with concrete strategies for building a learning space where every body can have a place in a shared story.

No movement background required.

Eligible participants will receive up to two (2) CTLE credit hours per workshop.

The Encore

Following each Professional Learning Lab, join us for an informal gathering at a nearby venue (location to be announced later) to keep the creative conversation going. Pull up a chair, grab a drink and some nosh, and swap stories with fellow artists and educators. This post-workshop gathering is a chance to make new collaborative connections and get inspiration from your colleagues. Drinks and bites are on you—good vibes and conversation are on us!

About Professional Learning Labs

These professional development workshops provide a collaborative space for educators to work as artists, learn new art form techniques to bring to their students, and make connections to their classroom goals and units. Each workshop will highlight alignments to the Next Generation Learning Standards, Blueprints for Teaching and Learning in the Arts, New York State Arts Standards and National Arts Standards.

All workshops take place in the lower lobby of the New Victory Theater.
