Online Resources for Parents of Kids with Autism
New Victory fosters an atmosphere of inclusion and, through our facilities and programs, strives to make our performances and spaces accessible so that all families can make regular theatergoing a part of their lives.
In every New Victory season, select performances are adapted for individuals on the autism spectrum or with sensory sensitivity. In addition to adjustments to the performance, we train select members to provide assistance as requested or needed, and we invite ticketbuyers to “meet their seat” ahead of time.
While we can’t be there for our regularly scheduled Sensory-Friendly performances right now, our commitment to arts accessibility for all families remains at the heart of our mission. To mark the end of Autism Awareness Month, we are sharing some words of wisdom for parents and caregivers of kids with autism.
NEXT for AUTISM is a non-profit organization that creates and funds innovative programs to improve the lives of people with autism and their families. Since 2003, NEXT for AUTISM has launched promising programs, including charter schools in Harlem and the Bronx, a diagnostic and clinical center at NY Presbyterian hospital, a teacher-training program at Hunter College, after-school programs at JCCs in Manhattan and Long Island, employment programs at the Arc Westchester, a consulting service for companies to hire and retain employees with autism and a residential services program that empowers adults to live within their communities. NEXT for AUTISM also supports educational, clinical and recreational programs across the country through its Night of Too Many Stars benefit.
Together with NEXT for AUTISM, we hope these resources serve as a guiding light while routines are thrown off and boundaries are tested during this trying time. We will get through this together!
