Did You Know?

Seattle Children’s Theatre and Third Wish Productions’ Chicka Chicka Boom Boom: The Musical is a toe-tapping adaptation of every kid’s favorite alphabet book. Learn more about the show and watch a short trailer below!

  • The letters of the alphabet come to life in different ways on stage—sometimes as puppets, sometimes as props, sometimes as costume pieces—all driven by five actors who take on multiple roles.
  • The book’s beloved story of climbing the coconut tree is central to the show, but with nine original songs and more room to play, this musical adaptation gives different groups of letters distinct, playful personalities.
  • With over 30 million copies in print, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom is the number one best-selling title from Simon & Schuster Publishing!

Try It Out!

Inspired by the wordplay and puppetry of Chicka Chicka Boom Boom: The Musical, work together to tell an alliterative story.

Siobhan and Anthony loved bringing the first letters of their names to life in original stories! What tall letter tales can you tell with your family?

  1. 1

Draw and cut out your kid’s favorite letter. It could be the first letter of their name or just a letter they love the sound of!

  2. 2

Work together to write a story full of words that start with that letter. This is a great chance to introduce your kid to both the dictionary and the thesaurus.

  3. 3

Decide who will recite the story and who will puppeteer the letter. Then, gather some props and put on a show!

Can you tell more stories using other favorite family letters? Get witty, keep it silly and have fun!

Talk About It!

As you make your way to the theater, get your kid in the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom: The Musical mindset with some show-themed conversation starters! Ask them:

  • What is your favorite letter of the alphabet and why?
  • Do you have a favorite book that you would love to see turned into a play, movie or TV show?
  • What would you say is the personality of the first letter of your name?
