Getting to Know Claire Parsons Co.

As a dance company, Claire Parsons Co. introduces new and exciting worlds to the very young through the colorful details they infuse in their work. By inviting audience members to personally interact with the sensory wonder of their shows, every individual experience is organically different. Their imaginative observations of life create humorous, elegant shows that enrich the experiences of even the smallest theatergoers. Performers Mira Björkman and Viktor Gyllenberg began collaborating with choreographer Claire Parsons on Marmalade after joining the company in 2013.

Did You Know?

  • Marmalade is the first piece Claire Parsons choreographed specifically with young audiences in mind. It has now become the company's signature work and was the first piece for young audiences to be awarded the Swedish Theater Critic's Dance Prize.
  • The company has developed eight shows specifically for young audiences. They look for new ways to mix sensory experiences, bright colors, dance and audience interaction.
  • They are in the midst of a three-year research project, partnering with Professor Kent Sjöström of Malmö University and Gerhard Verfaillie, Artistic Director of the Krokus Festival, to discover more about the relationship between young audiences and the performing arts. They hope to learn about the role kids play in performing arts created for them by adults, as well as what happens when kids perform with the adults.
