About the Show

The galaxy has lost its groove, and so has Cinderella! Growing up on Planet Centra, she felt as limitless as the stars, but now her jealous stepmother and two selfish stepsisters have her questioning her potential. Will the Prince’s Galactic Hip Hop Ball help Cinderella to trust in the power of her voice? With dazzling lyrics, pitch perfect characters and a sassy robot sidekick, Hip Hop Cinderella teleports the timeless classic across the cosmos and reminds us to reach for the farthest moon.

A brilliantly imaginative, futuristic romp

The Up Coming

The show on stage is just one act of your family’s visit! Come early and stay after for free pre- & post-show activities and kid-friendly amenities—part of the New Victory Experience.

Did You Know?

  1. First launched as a piece of digital theater in 2020, Hip Hop Cinderella is blasting into the third dimension on the New Victory stage for its New York premiere!
  2. With its constellation of rapping styles—melodic, braggadocio, battle rap—Hip Hop Cinderella is a time-warping take on proving your naysayers wrong through spoken word.
  3. A published sci-fi author (under a pseudonym), librettist Scott Elmegreen’s script references everything from Newton’s laws of motion to quantum entanglement. Other shows to his name with a scientific bent include Awesome Allie, First Kid Astronaut  and The Magic School Bus Live! The Climate Challenge.

About the Companies

Hip Hop Cinderella is produced by Amas Musical Theatre in association with Hip Hop Musicals.com, Francine Gordon, Willette & Manny Klausner, The Mae Private Foundation and Butler Tibbetts.

Amas Musical Theatre develops new musicals that celebrate the perspectives of communities of color and the emerging artistic talents of young people. From the Latin word for “you love,” Amas has pioneered multi-ethnic casting in theater since 1968, encouraging tolerance, civility and mutual learning.

From a sci-fi Cinderella to a Frankenstein twisted by fame, Hip Hop Musicals aims to create the next generation of musical theater by disrupting traditional narratives and uplifting diverse voices. Committed to the evolution and expansion of hip-hop, their writers tackle new approaches with continued reverence for the artists who paved the way.
